Night photography on Niijima Island
One night of almost new Moon and clear skies on Niijima Island’s Habushi Beach, in the great company of fun-loving people from the Tokyo Snow Club. With special thanks to fellow photographer Sachintha Gurudeniya (Sach) who braved the cold and the sleep deprivation to keep shooting with Aurora until 3am.
Our group from the Tokyo Snow Club enjoying the approach of summer with a bonfire under the starry sky.
A clear night on Niijima Island’s Habushi Beach. A bonfire lit behind the camera is illuminating the sand and creating the shadows of the camera tripods on the left of the image. I walked to different places in the image during the 25 second exposure and lit a small cigarette lighter each time, creating several ghostly carbon-copies of myself.
I light-painted the sand using my headlamp to reveal the shadows of the footprints under the stars.
Taking a moment to admire the view and listen to the pounding surf.
A collective creative effort of Aurora and fellow Sri Lankan photographer Sachintha Gurudeniya (Sach), with a composition inspired by a past photo shoot with the ever-amazing Karim Iliya.
Stone statues in the park very close to our campground reminded us of the magic of Stonehenge, especially with the Milky Way as a backdrop.
